 Final LSA rules  FAA has raised the maximum weights for Light Sport Aircraft, from the expected 1232 pounds to 1320 pounds (1430 pounds for amphibians) and raised the maximum cruise speed to 120 kts IAS from 115. Further, the stall requirements is now only 45 kts in clean configuration.

Light Sport Aaircraft performance guidelines: 15-knot and 1,232 pound (559kg) max. gross weight. This  is 240 pound heavier than the typical European UL class  Max.TotalWeight. These aircrafts do not have to go trough FAR-23 type certification that is madatory to traditional factory made sport aircrafts. This will make LSA very competive alternative for an sport pilot.
