Most popular ultralights in Germany 2005 Last
year showed rapid increase in registered new UL aircrafts.
In Germany there were 229 new registered ULs. It is still
far away from the record year 2000 when there were 320 new UL aircrafts registered. Ikarus
C42B did a veritable come back and took the significant leading position (28 planes registered)
from CT2K the best seller of 2004. CT2K and CTSW had totally
17 new planes sold and thereby the third most sold. The second
bestseller - can you believe- was MT-03
Gyrocopter with 25 new air crafts registered. Very big
surprise indeed. You can find the whole list at www.pilots24.com
.. The beginning of 2006 seems promising although many
manufacturers struggle to get enough carbon fiber for their
air crafts. There has been longer times as usual for the buyers
to wait for the delivery of ordered plane. That is not very
amusing situation now when the strips are clear of snow and
the weather is perfect for an adventure in the skies. One of the
reasons for the present lack of carbonfiber raw material
is naturally that Boeing and Airbus "have taken after UL:s
and" use carbonfiber in their new models. 2006.04.16

UL meet in Switzerland On 24th and 25th June the first Swiss fly-in for UL's will take
place at the Mollis airfield. The event is being organised by the
Swiss Microlight Federation.
Fatal UK Microligth (UL) Accidents 15 Nov 2005 an instructor and passenger of Pegasus Quick crashed during a
trial lesson. A failure of right upper fitting that had been modified incorrectly
caused the microlight to tumble manoeuvre that ended in two fatalities. The year
2004 had 4 fatalities that is more than ever since 1989 when there were 7 people
killed in Microlight Accident. In the light of these numbers flying is still
much more safe than driving. The UK
Civil Aviation Authority
has a database of reported microlight
accidents in UK. A very useful reading for microlight and ultralight pilots. Look

Parachute drops
from a UL in Germany Now
the range of operations performed by ultra-light aircraft
expand with Parachute drops. UL pilots who have a minimum
of 100 flying hours are allowed to drop parachutists. The parachutist
need to have made at least 100 jumps with manual release. The UL
aircraft manufacturer must prove that the particular model is suitable
for parachute drops by completing a test programme. 20060106

U-Turn: New rescue
Rapid Inflation System (RIS)
This completely new developed rescue is a round parachute in the
sizes 38 square metres (up to 100 kilogrammes) and 42 (up to 120
kilogrammes) .U-Turn promises sovereign and fast opening. The most
important feature of a rescue is the opening time needed. The innovative
rescue PROTECT opens even at low speed fast and sovereign and provides
minimum sink rates as a big canopy - in the area of 4.2 metres/second.
A repeated application of PROTECT is allowed. The PROTECT 38 weighs
2.1 kilogrammes and has little packing measures. This improvement
of safety is made specially for paragliders. More info at http://www.u-turn.de/.. 20051129

Time to get stall warner installed
2005-05-08 Too
often sport aircraft pilot has met a sequence of events: where the
pilot is
turning on to finals; pilots attention is distracted, which causes
loss of speed control, stall and rotational entry into a spin.
The result will be steep ground impact instead of a smooth landing.
This can be avoided with an audible stall warner for example from
Aircraftspruce
, the Australian Silverwings
or Avionix.

Powergenie USA
2005-03-29 Powergenie
is a power control unit for Rotax engines (503 through 912) and
other two-stroke engines. According to the company, with Powergenie
your hour meter will run only when the engine itself is running
, and is eliminating the need to rely on the master or engine switch.
You can power up the airplane’s electrical system on the ground
for maintenance and testing without clocking aircraft time. Powergenie
can also be used to power other equipment like beacons, strobes
and landing lights for automatic operation when the engine is running.
The weight is less than an ounce. For more information http://www.powergenie.central5.com

Around the world

2005-03-02. TJ Matevz Lenarcic did at
last manage to fly around the world with an ultralight aircraft (2004). Lenarcic did not have a co-pilot or support aircraft. For
the voyage he had chosen Pipistrel Sinus ultralight motor glider. He did spend totally 79
days on the journey from with there were 23 flight days. Lenarcic did
fly via Asian,
USA, Canada, Greenland, Island and Europe. In 2002 Lenarcic tried
to do the Around the World with Zenair CH-701, but was forced to
quit after 7% of the voyage was done by the all mighty bureaucracy. You

the sky of USA is open for affordable sport flying. The new regulations
allow 600 kg MTOW, max speed 120 kt and max stall speed 45

than in the European countries. It will not be permitted to fly
in the controlled air space without special training. The fixed

right and ready for these regulations and will probably take a big
